Preview Roundups
October 26, 2014
Detroit at Atlanta 9:30 AM ET
The Atlanta Falcons hardly look ready for prime time this season so perhaps a trip overseas is coming at an opportune time as the struggling club attempts to halt a four-game losing streak. The Falcons have dropped all four games by double digits and look to rebound against the Detroit Lions on Sunday morning at London's Wembley Stadium. “We need to worry about this coming week,” Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan said. “We need to prepare better, practice better and play better. We know what to do."
St. Louis at Kansas City 1:00 PM ET
The Kansas City Chiefs attempt to defeat St. Louis for the sixth consecutive time when they host the Rams on Sunday. Kansas City has won the five meetings by an average of 19 points and enters this contest on a high note after recording an impressive 23-20 road win over the San Diego Chargers last week. The Rams also enter the game with confidence after producing a 28-26 victory over the defending champion Seattle Seahawks.
Houston at Tennessee 1:00 PM ET
With their season slipping away and starting quarterback Jake Locker still injured, the Tennessee Titans are ready for another shake-up under center. Rookie Zach Mettenberger will take over for Charlie Whitehurst and become the team's third different starting quarterback Sunday at home against the Houston Texans. A sixth-round pick out of LSU, Mettenberger has played in one game but some are hopeful he will eventually put an end to the Titans' constant quarterback shuffle.
Minnesota at Tampa Bay 1:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are giving up points at an astounding rate but had last week off to address some of the bigger holes in defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier’s scheme. The Minnesota Vikings, who visit the Buccaneers on Sunday, are dealing with some deficiencies on the offensive side as rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater tries to find his way. The Vikings attempt to end a three-game slide against Tampa Bay.
Seattle at Carolina 1:00 PM ET
The Seattle Seahawks attempt to avoid their first three-game losing streak since 2011 when they visit the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. Seattle resides in third place in the NFC West after suffering back-to-back defeats to Dallas and St. Louis and hopes for a re-energized effort while moving on from the stunning trade of receiver Percy Harvin to the New York Jets. Carolina has struggled since winning its first two games, but still is in first place in the NFC South.
Baltimore at Cincinnati 1:00 PM ET
Teams whose fortunes have changed drastically since their Week 1 matchup meet again Sunday when the Cincinnati Bengals host the Baltimore Ravens in a crucial AFC North contest. Since losing at home to the Bengals, the Ravens have won five of the last six games to claim the division lead, but coach John Harbaugh isn't ready to punch his postseason ticket just yet. Cincinnati started the season with three consecutive victories before the wheels started falling off against New England.
Miami at Jacksonville 1:00 PM ET
The Miami Dolphins have answered a modest tailspin by winning two of their last three games and could keep the positive momentum going when they visit the Sunshine State rival Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Ryan Tannehill threw for two touchdowns for the third straight week and Mike Wallace found the end zone for the fifth time in six games to lift Miami to a 27-14 victory over Chicago last Sunday. Jacksonville looks to build off its first win of the season, a 24-6 triumph over Cleveland.
Chicago at New England 1:00 PM ET
The New England Patriots overcame some early struggles to ascend to their usual position atop the AFC East and are staring at a rugged stretch that will determine just how good the team can be moving forward. The Chicago Bears, who visit the Patriots on Sunday, are heading in the other direction and are reportedly dealing with some turmoil in the locker room. The Bears are losers of three of four and are having some problems hanging onto the ball.
Buffalo at N.Y. Jets 1:00 PM ET
Two teams in desperate search of playmakers meet Sunday when the New York Jets host Buffalo. With six straight losses and a passing offense that ranks 31st in the NFL, wide receiver Percy Harvin will make his debut against Buffalo after wearing out his welcome in Seattle in a move that quarterback Geno Smith and coach Rex Ryan hope saves their jobs. Unlike New York, the Bills are in playoff contention but will be without top runners C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson for the foreseeable future.
Philadelphia at Arizona 4:05 PM ET
There are only four one-loss teams remaining in the NFL and two of them square off Sunday afternoon when the Arizona Cardinals host the Philadelphia Eagles. Philadelphia is suddenly looking up at Dallas in the NFC East after the Cowboys have opened with six wins in seven games, while the Cardinals have surprised after they were expected by most experts to play third fiddle to Seattle and San Francisco in the NFC West.
Oakland at Cleveland 4:25 PM ET
The Cleveland Browns look to avoid losing to a winless team for a second straight week when they host the hapless Oakland Raiders on Sunday. Vying for its third consecutive victory, Cleveland fell flat in Week 7 as it suffered a 24-6 defeat against a Jacksonville team that had lost its first six games. The Browns actually owned a 6-0 lead until the final minute of the first half but were kept under 21 points for the first time in 2014.
Indianapolis at Pittsburgh 4:25 PM ET
The Indianapolis Colts rebounded after losing their first two games of the season by rolling off five consecutive victories to vault to the top of the AFC South. Andrew Luck and the Colts look to continue their winning ways when they visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Luck, who threw for 344 yards and two touchdowns in Indianapolis' 27-0 rout of Cincinnati last week, has surpassed the 300-yard plateau in each game during the winning streak to tie the franchise record.
Green Bay at New Orleans 8:30 PM ET
The New Orleans Saints will be banking on their home-field dominance when they host the surging Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. The Saints have dropped all four games on the road, including a galling setback last week at Detroit in which they blew a 13-point lead over the final 3:38, but quarterback Drew Brees said it's not time to panic. "There's no must-win games until they're must-win games," Brees said. "It's important. It's really important, but nobody needs that kind of pressure."
