DEVILS 2, ISLANDERS 1: David Clarkson and defenseman Marek Zidlicky scored 14 seconds apart late in the third period as New Jersey extended its winning streak to three games with a comeback road victory over New York.

Johan Hedberg made 23 saves for the Devils, who have won nine of 12 away from home and seven of their last nine meetings with the Islanders.

New York rookie Anders Nilsson was on the verge of posting his second consecutive shutout against New Jersey before Clarkson forged a 1-1 tie with 1:39 remaining in the third period. Clarkson grabbed the puck behind the net and came out on the right side before firing it between Nilsson's left arm and body for his 28th goal.

New York's PA Parenteau was sent to the penalty box for boarding eight seconds later, and the Devils quickly made the Islanders pay. After New Jersey won the ensuing faceoff in the offensive zone, Zidlicky unleashed a slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that beat Nilsson for his first tally since Minnesota's 2010-11 season finale.

The Islanders snapped a scoreless tie less than seven minutes into the third.

Following a turnover down low, Matt Moulson gained possession in the left corner and passed the puck to Parenteau behind the net. Parenteau quickly dished it to All-Star John Tavares, who fired it over the right shoulder of Hedberg from the left faceoff circle for his 27th goal.

The tally was only Tavares' third in 17 career games against New Jersey.

Nilsson, who became the first Islanders goalie to post a shutout in his first career win last Sunday against the Devils, stopped 33 shots as New York was playing its third straight game against New Jersey.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Parenteau's assist was his 45th of the season, the most by an Islander since Travis Green totaled the same amount in 1995-96. ... The Islanders have scored a total of six goals in five meetings with the Devils this season.
